An independent educational publication about one idea that shows up everywhere: representing values with fewer, discrete levels. We explain it with calculators you can check and guides that cite their sources.
Why this site exists
Quantization decides whether a language model runs on a laptop or needs a rack of GPUs, how clean a recording sounds, whether a drum part grooves, and why atoms glow in sharp colours. The information is scattered across research papers, framework documentation, forum threads and datasheets, and much of it is out of date or contradictory. We bring it together in one place, in plain language, with the numbers worked out.
What we publish
- Tools — browser-based calculators that show their formulas: VRAM sizing, quantization error, ADC resolution, MIDI quantize and atomic energy levels.
- Guides — in-depth articles across four tracks: AI models, signals and audio, music timing, and physics.

Editorial policy
Primary sources first. Facts, formulas and commands are checked against original papers, official documentation, standards and datasheets, which we link at the end of every guide.
Show the working. Where we give a number we show how it was calculated, or label it clearly as an estimate.
No invented evidence. We do not publish made-up benchmarks, testimonials or statistics. Illustrative examples are labelled as such.
Independence. Advertisers, sponsors and supporters do not decide what we cover or conclude. Sponsored content is always labelled. If we ever earn a referral fee from something we recommend, we say so on the page.
How content is made. Our editorial team researches and writes each page; software tools, including AI assistants, may help with research and drafting. Responsibility for accuracy stays with the editors, and every page lists the sources it was checked against.
Corrections. Found an error or an outdated command? Tell us. We review every report and update the page, with the date shown at the top.
How we are funded
Display advertising served by Google AdSense, labelled sponsorships, reader support, and optional paid help for teams who request it through our free optimization plan. Everything on the site remains free to read and use.
